alternate earth
i decided to try and improve the original mod,it was lacking in certain areas and extreme in others,hopefully the modifications have improved the overall balance.
the mod can now be installed with or without the fleet ops patch 1.2.5
Alternate Earth ver 2.1
its 2 years later and i started playing armada again,mainly because of the new quad core machine i have,
its so fast now and looks really good for such an old game,
anyway i decided to look at this old mod and see if i could improve it,
changes:
poly reducing where possible and retexturing to the best of my abilities,
with the limited software i have(extremely difficult is an understatement)
most of the changes are to the odf files,ships,weapons,stations and physics,to improve the balance
and the behaviour of the mod.
the main change is that the patch 1.2.5 is no longer needed,
the xbombers and daix ships can all be built individually and the replace weapons have been removed.
there is a folder containing all the files needed to make the race work with the patch, as in ver 1.0
if so needed.it includes all the changes that the non patch version has.
all non mash models removed and replaced, except avons liberator and the stock game models,
this is no reflection on the other modders work,which is excellent btw,
i wanted this version to be more in house as it were,but the liberator is needed.

altyard - standard shipyard (based on red dwarf model)
altyard2 - advanced shipyard (based on red dwarf model)
altsuper - special weapons construction station(based on fed trading station)
basedef - pulse turret (based on fed science station)
minedef - photon torpedo turret (based on fed science station)
orbdef - armed orbital station (based on fed mining station)
altpod(1-18) - reseach pods for special weapons(most based on pods from the various races in the game)
altpod(19-28) - upgrade pods(based on fed pods)
xbomber7 - assault version,packed with everything needed to capture enemy ships and stations

all the thunderbirds have been poly reduced and retextured,
as has the erruption class(i made the textures with ms paint,i know its bad but
its all i have to make textures with sorry,but all the milkshape files are included.
the ai has been reworked to reflect the hopefully better balanced odf's(its based on the ai from vanilla ultimate and not the stock ai)

reworked techtree
build buttons and wireframes reworked
theres a new gui
improved tooltips

install instructions :
backup any files you need to first
all folders are found in the main armada2 directory which is located in the activision folder,
located in the main windows program files folder.
put all files in their corresponding folders found in the main game directory(odf,sod,misc,ai,bitmaps,textures).
sprite files :
add the file gui_alt.spr to the sprite folder

if you have the patched version(1.2.5) use the files located in the patch 1.2.5 folder for this part of the install,
for non patched versions use the files in the folders located in the main alternate earth folder(sprites techtree)

copy and paste as directed, the sections in the sprite files to the corresponding sprite files
in the sprites folder in the game directory.
copy and paste as directed ,the sections in the techtree files to the corresponding techtree files
in the techtree folder in the game directory.

IMPORTANT
if you have the patched version(1.2.5) use the file located in the patch 1.2.5 folder for this part of the install,
for non patched versions use the file in the main alternate earth folder.

copy and paste as directed,the sections in the dynamic localized strings file to the corresponding file in the game directory.

other files for patch 1.2.5 :
follow instructions as above,then add the tga files to the textures/rgb folder
the special weapons to odf/special weapons
the xbombers and dai x to odf/ships
finally
open the races.odf file located in odf/other and add the lines
numberOfRaces = 9
race8 = "alternate.odf"
