AI Value Formula AI Value Formula

This formula lets you calculate how the AI will react to your ships. It encompasses a number of factors, from the amount of damage produced by the weapons to the bonuses afforded it by the special weapons, and even its maneuverability and ability to repair other ships. A complete list of variables is included in the file.

This is a useful starting point, but it's just a .JPEG, not a usable mod. What'd be nice is if this information were in something formulaic, to aid in balancing and adding new ships to the game. But that's another mod, for the future. Something to look forward to.

Regardless of what it could be, what this represents is a major leap forward in our ability to predict and calculate how the AI thinks, and how it can be programmed to respond differently.

Cool

AI Ship/Station Valuation Formula by CanadianBorg

This formula is intended to help you calculate how the AI will react to your ships, e.g. going after battleships first rather than scouts, and differentiating between different threat levels based on a comprehensive study of factors.

NOTE:

I have not quite figured out how the IntrinsicValue command works. If it turns out that a smaller value equals a larger threat level, simply divide 1 by the result of this equation. Otherwise, divide the value of this equation for any given ship by the largest value yielded in your build. In this fashion, the biggest ship will have a threat level of 1, whereas the smallest ship will be equal to its combat rating over that of the battleship.

Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to create a tool that will do this automatically, so you'll have to use a pencil and paper and calculator for now. Sorry...

I'm probably going to create an IntrinsicValue calculator at some point, so stay tuned!

I'd love to see a program where the AI will randomly select a ship to attack, just like on TV. Whenever I send fleets out to attack someone, all my ships will automatically target one ship. It is really frustrating.

The point of this formula is to make the computer players target ships more realistically - to respond to different threats differently, and to destroy ships/stations in order according to the threat which they pose.
