This ship is the Miranda class as it would have looked before the fleet-wide refit in the 2270's. The design is based on the USS Copernicus from the Star Trek: Phase II episode "Blood and Fire". And Pizza the Hutt has brought it into the game wonderfully. This is a really well done design and it fits perfectly in that TOS fleet we all have kicking around somewhere. Note that this uses FahreS' parts in a kitbash configuration, so you don't have to worry about whether or not it matches FahreS' Constitution class starship.

Take a look at the predecessors of one of the future's most long-serving starships.

Cool

Installation:
-------------

Copy the file TOSmir.sod into the SOD folder
Copy the .tga files into the Textures > RGB folder
Copy the file TOSmir.odf into the ODF > ships folder
Copy the file TOSmir.bmp into the Bitmaps > Admiralslog folder

Open the file fyard2.odf or fyard.odf (whichever shipyard you want the ship
To be built from) and insert the line: buildItemXX = "TOSmir" under
build Parameters below the last ship to be build
XX being the next unused number

Save that file

Open "tech 1" from the Techtree folder and insert this line:

TOSmir.odf 1 fyard.odf // Miranda Class
Save this file, open "fulltech.tt" and insert the following line

TOSmir.odf 0

Then save and open "GUI_global.spr" from the sprites folder

Then add this line under federation build buttons:

b_TOSmir gbfTOSmir 0 0 64 64

For the wire frame just add these lines into the gui global under wireframes

@reference=128
@tmaterial=interface

TOSmirw1 tosmirwire 0 0 48 48
TOSmirw2 tosmirwire 48 0 48 48
TOSmirw3 tosmirwire 96 0 48 48
TOSmirw4 tosmirwire 144 0 48 48
TOSmirw5 tosmirwire 192 0 48 48

what! no! the miranda was introduced just after the enterprise was refit! and whats with the third nacelle?

There is nothing canon that says the Miranda was introduced after the Constitution was refit. We just didn't see any before then, so it's anyone's guess.

And it's not a third nacelle, it's a pod, like what the refit Miranda has (only with a deflector instead of torpedoes).

Uh... isn't the TOS Miranda known as the Surya ?
#5 theStarfleetKid 2009-05-28 18:33
No. The Surya doesn't have that sensor pod configuration on top, its sensor dish is mounted underneath on an angled outboard arm. It might be a variant of the Surya, though. Although my fondness for the Surya design remains as strong as ever. I love that little ship.

So the file description mentions that this ship is featured in a star trek phase II episode. How does one go about obtaining or at least watching these rare episodes?

You can watch ST: Phase II episodes here:
www.startreknewvoyages.com/index.html

Note: This is not the original phase II. It is a fan project which sticks very closely to TOS continuity. It continues where the 3rd season of TOS ended and basically is about the 4th year of Kirk's 5year mission. Some episodes may be recycled scripts from the original phase II. Some episodes feature original TOS cast, such as George Takei and Walter Koenig.

Also the Surya has a shorter hull. According to the tech manuals that the Surya is in, its TMP equivalent is the Knox.

The TOS ship that became the Miranda, in those same books, is known as the Coventry class. But that didn't have the sensor pod either.
