Included in this pack are five ships all based around the hull of the Kelvin class from the new Star Trek film. These are -

The Kelvin herself
A Miranda class thing
An Akula class
A Saladin Class
And a three nacelled ship from the film.

Also includes new weapon effects and two backgrounds intended for usage by mappers. There are no maps in this pack.

Tools used -

3ds Max 8 - modelling, UVWing and rendering
Adobe Phtoshop CS3 Extended - texture creation
Milkshape 3d - Hardpointing and SOD conversion

Special Thanks/Mention -

Thanks to Ex Astris Scientia for the rough measurements of the Kelvin. I am of the opinion that the deductive reasoning used here to place it around 240m and the Constitution 300m are far more correct than the official sizes given; which seem to be aimed at the SSD and BSG mindset.

All of the people who have ever made a mod, even if its not been released. You are all my inspiration

Assimsoft for the plugins. Couldn't be modelling without 'em!

Achilles and Fireball for their excellent texturing tutorials. Guess what guys; they work!

-- Introduction--
**************************************************

Thank you for downloading this little pack I've put together. Inside you will find five ships based around the hull style of the Kelvin. This pack also includes weaponry, two new backgrounds, and build buttons. Unfortunately, I've been unable to get wireframes made how I'd like them to look - so rather than postpone release they are not included with this. Sorry for any inconvenience.

**************************************************
-- Model Information--
**************************************************

These models and textures are all my own work. Obviously the designs aren't entirely my own (The Miranda would be the one I need to think about the most) and as such I claim no ownership over them. The models are all around 2000 polies. Most are under (Kelvin is 1954) and use two textures for all of them. Hopefully they should run on all systems.

**************************************************
-- Installation Instructions--
**************************************************

Simple:
Copy all folders into the A2 directory and overwrite when asked THIS METHOD IS FOR CLEAN COPIES OF ARMADA 2 ONLY. IT WILL MOST DEFINITELY MESS UP A MODDED INSTALL!

Complex:
Located in the 'Install Instructions' File.

**************************************************
-- A note about the odf's--
**************************************************

I have balanced the ODF files roughly to stock by copying a ship and then replacing the tooltip and all that. ScaleSOD commands have not been used - the models were scaled according to EX Astris Scientia measurements and the Assimsoft Scaler Tool in Milkshape 3D

There are two versions of the ODF files - Fleetops and non Fleetops. The ones in the 'FLOPS' folder utilise the 'MaxBuildableNumber' command from the patch project.

The patch project was not made and is not supported by me.

For all you purists out there, one of the weapon textures are blue phsaers akin to TOS of old simply replace the line

Sprite = "RTphaser"

with

Sprite = "BTphaser"

in the Phaser ODF files. If you have problems with this I would recommend posting on the forums.

**************************************************
-- A Request--
**************************************************

Have fun with this, its what I made them for. Oh, and if anyone wants to tinker with them then feel free - its the way I learned

**************************************************
-- Permission--
**************************************************

I hereby grant permission for anyone to modify the included models and textures and release them. I know what they look like though - so if you try and pass 'em off as your own there'll be trouble!

In all seriousness, feel free to use any and all parts of this mod for any purpose with the exception of porting. I would request an e-mail about this for the simple reason that I could provide the base mesh that will sure expediate things.

can someone create a version of these with their own texture files so can work in a modded version of the game
#2 thunderfoot007 2009-05-28 18:13
These will work in as they are in modded game, without changing the textures. If you wish to place them in a modded game, please read the installation instructions included in the mod. I like how the ship looks in game. The weapons textures are pretty good.

The USS Kelvin is not a kelvin class the correct designation for the class Is The Avery class starship.....
#4 Major_A_Payne 2009-05-28 23:48
Actually the Kelvin was never mentioned in the film as to what type of class it is. Books aren't considered Trek canon so anything stated in them wouldn't apply.

This is a good step up for the JJ Trek series. Great work!

Where'd you get that idea from?

i actually really liked some of the new designs for the new trek movie. the new enterprise is a beauty onscreen. someone should try re-doing more TOS ships like this. it would be cool if we could get a nice, well-detailed model of the new enterprise now that the film is out, too. the ones we have are nice, but... idk, they just don't capture the essence of the one from the film. possibly because they are colored with the red bussard collectors we are all used to...

theres a ship missing from the move it had 4 necells. but cool ship add on hope you make it a full tos mod
#9 afcZman 2009-06-05 23:51

The Proxima Class, it's on this site already. It has some hardpoint issues though I noticed, but if you can fix that (which I cannot, as I do not know how) it is on A2files.
