Artillery Torpedo Artillery Torpedo

This is Raygen's update to the Artillery Torpedo uploaded in the last quarter last year. It's one of those 'does exactly what it says on the tin' weapons. It's long range. Very long range. The kind of long range that would've destroyed Voyager in the Delta Quadrant if fired from the Alpha Quadrant...okay, not that long, but it easily spawns the width of any of the stock maps and then-some. Replacing the Keldon plasma-bank overload special, it boasts an astronomical damage rating but slow recharge rate and annoyingly long transport speed (as in, it doesn't fly very fast). Whilst it isn't wholly balanced, it does make for a bit of fun when picking off enemy stations.

Game-play though, whilst yes it can make it easier, you need a 'spotter' or reconnaissance vessel to find a desired location to target. As such, I don't believe such a technique has been done before. Sure, having a scout in the enemy base let's you see where to target and this partially works for the standard artillery ships (to which this weapon I think would be more fitting to) it doesn't get used on such scale. As such, I like it. I don't think it is wholly balanced, but it does bring something a little new to the plate and a new weapon is a new weapon.

ARTILLERY TORPEDO 1.5 BY RAYGEN
***********************************************
This is an updated version of the Artillery Torpedo.
It generally balances the mod because it now is a special weapon
wich obviously requires special energy to function. Also it replaces
the custom firing sound with a standard. This to prevent sound-spamming
(20 explosions at one time doesn't sound very nice).

For those who are new to this mod:
It replaces the Keldon's Plasma Bank Overload by a very destructive
long-range (it spans the entire map!!!) torpedo. Let's say you want
to prepare a nasty little surprise for your opponent. Send a cloaked
Hideki scout class (assuming you chose Cardassian side, the Keldon is
a Cardassian ship after all) into his base. This will allow you to
target his structures. Fire off the torpedo, sit back, and watch him
panic as the pieces of his starbase (or mother, in the case he is
Species 8472) fly around. Nice eh? Be sure to research the Keldon
Plasma Bank Overload from the Research Center, as it remotely refers
to the Artillery Photon.

Installation: Unzip anywhere you would like and then place
gplasmabank.odf and plasmabanko.odf into odf/special_weapons.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to back up the standard gplasmabank and
plasmabanko as installation WILL override these files. If you don't,
you will have to reinstall to get the standard back.

Have Fun!

"It's long range. Very long range. The kind of long range that would've destroyed Voyager in the Delta Quadrant if fired from the Alpha Quadrant...okay, not that long." - That really made me laugh!

Anyways, onto the file review:

I've tried it out, and I dont like the unbalanced-ness of the weapon, and it is an ultimately simple mod...

I do like that fact that it requires a spotter ship (Old style artillary, good stuff). Also I've personally stuck it on an unarmed cardassian ship with a really slow special weapon recharge rate, makes a pretty cool special weapon then.

For being an average, simple mod. But a couple of marks for good inspiration:

The super station (Centerpoint Station) weapon in SWvsST had a torp like that, with a brilliant texture.

So this is pretty cool. We like weapons. Bid badda boom...

as a special weapon stationbased (starbase?)i would like that if it takes like 2 min to recharge...
