This second zip pack includes the Species 8472 Behemoth. This ship is the biggest of the Combat Units Species 8472 has ingame, it's mere presence can cause fear in any adversary. Those fears are now intensified by the addition of the Point-defense beams mentioned in the Game Manual and a towing beam.

I always liked the concept so I made it basing it closely to the stock version, but adding many more details and also fixed the issue that the ship was not simetrical like the Battleship, so I made the forward tendrils and wings to be simetrical this time, giving the model an even better look.

Species 8472 Pack 02 (Behemoth):

Hello:
I am Chiletrek and this mod contains my version of the Species 8472 Behemoth.

Species 8472 is a powerful presence in the game, but it is always one of the most neglected races, still it is between the races with the best quality of stock models and textures; but after this many years since the game first came out, all races began having updates on their models and now I wanted to try and give Species 8472 some new models and, in this way, to update them a bit.

All new models have a different more accurate scaling, so don't be alarmed if you find the new models are too small (compared to the stock ones), but they are still bigger than their actual canon sizes.

The Behemoth is the biggest of the combat units Species 8472 has ingame, with three times the lenght of the Battleship, this 600 meters lenght bioship is one of the biggest ever encountered in the known universe.

This mod will add a Point-Defense Beam to the ship which was mentioned in the Game Manual but was never placed ingame and also added a towing beam, very useful since it can be used to take friendly ships out of danger when used in combination with the Transient Rift.

Things I made:

1) A new model and texture to replace the stock Species 8472 Behemoth.

2) New buildbutton, wireframes, Admiral's Log pic and ODFs.

3) New sound file for the Behemoth's beam weapon. Sound file taken from the Star Trek Voyager episodes "Scorpion".

4) This Read me.

Installation Instructions:

Before anything, you should make a backup of your files since they will edited and/or replaced. The file that will receive a big editing will be gui_global.spr, so try to have a backup of it before editing it, so it will be easier to revert to a previous state.

1) Unzip the contents of this file on a temporary folder.

2) Open your Star Trek Armada II folder.

3) Copy .sod file from this "SOD" folder and paste it in your SOD folder located in the main game directory.

4) Copy 8472_behemoth.bmp and paste it in your bitmapsAdmiralsLogShipImages folder.

5) Copy the content of the "ships" folder and paste it in your odfships folder. Replace if asked, the file is the ships' main odf file.

6) Copy the content of the "Phasers" folder and paste them in your odfPhasers folder. Replace if asked, these files are the ships' bio-pulse beam files and added Point Defense guns mentioned in the manual but absent in the stock game.

7) Copy the .wav files of the "effects" folder and paste it in your soundseffects folder.

8) Copy all .tga files of the "RGB" folder and paste them in your TexturesRGB folder.

8a) The file called 8472_behemoth-512.tga is a lower resolution version of the texture file (512x512), copy this one and rename it to 8472_behemoth.tga if you have lags ingame or if don't want/can't use the higher resolution one (1024x1024).

9) Open your Sprites folder and open gui_global.spr with Notepad.

10) Search for: #8472 Wireframes
@reference=128

11) Paste these lines:

8472_behemothw1 8472_behemothwire 40 0 40 40
8472_behemothw2 8472_behemothwire 0 40 40 40
8472_behemothw3 8472_behemothwire 40 40 40 40
8472_behemothw4 8472_behemothwire 80 0 40 40
8472_behemothw5 8472_behemothwire 0 0 40 40

if you cannot fine the @reference=128 line, you can add it, this will allow for the correct visualization of the new wireframes.

12) Now Search for:

8472_behemothw1 8472wireframe01 0 192 48 48
8472_behemothw2 8472wireframe01 48 192 48 48
8472_behemothw3 8472wireframe01 96 192 48 48
8472_behemothw4 8472wireframe01 144 192 48 48
8472_behemothw5 8472wireframe01 192 192 48 48

below the @reference=256 and erase them, this will allow the use of the new wireframes instead of the original stock ones.

13) Open your weapon.spr, also in the Sprited folder and look for:

# Species 8472 phaser (bio pulse)
spphaser spphaser 0 0 150 64 @anim=spphaser_u @anim=spphaser_v @tile_u

and paste these lines below it:

spphaser2 spphaser2 0 0 150 64 @anim=spphaser_u @anim=spphaser_v @tile_u

this will add a new bio-pulse beam texture for the Behemoth. As that ship has 3 times the lenght of the Battleship, I thought it needs a weapon texture that suits ;) .

14) The build button is a new design using Yacuzza's 8472 button template from the Twilight Mod, it will replace stock button but it doesn't need new codes.

A MS3d file is present in this SOD folder, if someone wants to take a look at it ;) .

15) Pheewwww, Finally, you are ready to enjoy this mod, I'm sorry to make such long read me but it was neccesary to try to avoid problems.

Great work revamping the species 8472 ships Chiletrek, these textures look way better than the stock ones  just wondering who might win out if a fleet of these guys go up against an armada of Shadow vessels from Babylon 5. :D
