Some years ago, I wanted to do a big Species 8472 mod, but it was getting too big for me to handle alone, so it was put into an extended hiatus. Later, as I gained experience with modelling (making models for BSA, and other for myself) and after watching Aad Moerman began making replacement models for the stock races, I decided to do the same and to restart modding Species 8472, by giving them new models and textures.
This first zip pack contains the first two models: the Battleship and Frigate. They come together as they are needed for the Bio-Pulse Conduit special weapon and as they are canon units. All necessary files are included: Models with better scaling (sod and ms3d), textures, wireframes, build-buttons, new sounds and Admiral Log's pics. More ships will come soon.


Species 8472 Pack 01 (Battleship and Frigate):

Hello:
I am Chiletrek and this mod contains my version of the Species 8472 Battleship and Frigate.

Species 8472 is a powerful presence in the game, but it is always one of the most neglected races, still it is between the races with the best quality of stock models and textures; but after this many years since the game first came out, all races began having updates on their models and now I wanted to try and give Species 8472 some new models and, in this way, to update them a bit.

All new models have a different more accurate scaling, so don't be alarmed if you find the new models are too small (compared to the stock ones), but they are still bigger than their actual canon sizes.


Things I made:

1) New models and texture to replace the stock Species 8472 Battleship and Frigate. Both ships been released together as they share the same texture file and both are necessary for their shared special weapon: The Bio-Pulse Conduit.

2) New buildbuttons, wireframes, Admiral's Log pics and ODFs.

3) New sound files for the Battleship's beam weapon and the Bio-Pulse Conduit special weapon. Sound files taken from the Star Trek Voyager episodes "Scorpion".

4) This Read me.


Installation Instructions:

Before anything, you should make a backup of your files since they will edited and/or replaced. The file that will receive a big editing will be gui_global.spr, so try to have a backup of it before editing it, so it will be easier to revert to a previous state.

1) Unzip the contents of this file on a temporary folder.

2) Open your Star Trek Armada II folder.

3) Copy .sod files from this "SOD" folder and paste them in your SOD folder located in the main game directory.

4) Copy 8472_battle.bmp and 8472_frigate.bmp and paste them in your bitmapsAdmiralsLogShipImages folder.

5) Copy the content of the "ships" folder and paste them in your odfships folder. Replace if asked, these two files are the ships' main odf files.

6) Copy the content of the "Phasers" folder and paste them in your odfPhasers folder. Replace if asked, these files are the ships' bio-pulse beam files.

7) Copy the content of the "special_weapons" folder and paste them in your odfspecial_weapons folder. Replace if asked, this file is the Bio-pulse Conduit main file, the only change made was to allow it to use the new sound file.

8) Copy all .wav files of the "effects" folder and paste them in your soundseffects folder.

9) Copy all .tga files of the "RGB" folder and paste them in your TexturesRGB folder.

9a) The file called 8472_battleshipCT-512.tga is a lower resolution version of the texture file (512x512), copy this one and rename it to 8472_battleshipCT.tga if you have lags ingame or if don't want/can't use the higher resolution one (1024x1024).

10) Open your Sprites folder and open gui_global.spr with Notepad.

11) Search for: #8472 Wireframes
@reference=128

12) Paste these lines:

8472_battlew1 8472_battlewire 40 0 40 40
8472_battlew2 8472_battlewire 0 40 40 40
8472_battlew3 8472_battlewire 40 40 40 40
8472_battlew4 8472_battlewire 80 0 40 40
8472_battlew5 8472_battlewire 0 0 40 40

8472_frigatew1 8472_frigatewire 40 0 40 40
8472_frigatew2 8472_frigatewire 0 40 40 40
8472_frigatew3 8472_frigatewire 40 40 40 40
8472_frigatew4 8472_frigatewire 80 0 40 40
8472_frigatew5 8472_frigatewire 0 0 40 40

if you cannot fine the @reference=128 line, you can add it, this will allow for the correct visualization of the new wireframes.

13) Now Search for:

8472_battlew1 8472wireframe01 0 0 48 48
8472_battlew2 8472wireframe01 48 0 48 48
8472_battlew3 8472wireframe01 96 0 48 48
8472_battlew4 8472wireframe01 144 0 48 48
8472_battlew5 8472wireframe01 192 0 48 48

8472_frigatew3 8472wireframe01 96 48 48 48

below the @reference=256 and erase them, this will allow the use of the new wireframes instead of the original ones.

14) The build buttons are new designs using Yacuzza's 8472 button template from the Twilight Mod, the will replace stock buttons but they don't need new codes.

MS3d files are present in this SOD folder, if someone wants to take a look at them ;) .

15) Pheewwww, Finally, you are ready to enjoy this mod, I'm sorry to make such long read me but it was neccesary to try to avoid problems.

Would there by chance be any new classes of bioships? Can we look forward to a Biosphere structure addon?

Yes, there will be new classes of ships and stations, but it will take some time as I am quite busy these days. But I want to do them so they will come.
